Shareen Joshi is a professor at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. As an applied micro-economist, she combines traditional economic tools with cutting-edge artificial intelligence to understand how development actually happens on the ground. Rather than focusing solely on markets or policies, her research reveals how the institutions that surround us — from family structures to court systems — fundamentally shape whether people can invest in themselves and transform their lives. She has received grants from the McArthur Foundation, the Hewlett Foundation, the World Bank, the Swedish government and Georgetown University.
